25 Years of the Department – 25 Years of Alumni

The Department of Philology of the University of Patras celebrated 25 years of operation in 2022. It was founded in 1994 (Presidential Decree 305/94, Government Gazette 163/4-10-1994), but welcomed its first students during the academic year 1997–1998. This, therefore, was the first “class” of our students, while our first graduates received their degrees in 2001. Since then, 3,231 students have graduated (recorded up to the March 2022 graduation ceremony), 196 have obtained their postgraduate degree, 34 have completed their doctoral dissertation, while another 51 are currently in the process of completing theirs.

However, our students are NOT merely numbers. And even more so, they are NOT simply a collection of degrees, specializations, research projects, publications, and distinctions. Our students are the soul of our Department, through their energy and the personal story each and every one embodies. Our desire to stay connected with you is strong. We want to follow your journey, your successes, and even your challenges, as you move forward beyond the University.

There is also another important dimension to the Alumni Association: the relationships you built during your years at the University, the joys and sorrows, the anxieties and aspirations, the memories you created. And now, after graduation, there are the bonds – both personal and professional – that continue to connect you. The sense of belonging to a University does not end the moment you receive your degree. It simply changes form. This year, in 2022, let us celebrate this sense of belonging with a grand reunion celebration (REUNION), alongside the Department’s remarkable 25 years of operation. A special dinner is being planned for June 24th at the Peace Park of the University of Patras. The official invitation and participation form for the dinner will be announced soon.
