{"id":8240,"date":"2020-12-08T19:40:15","date_gmt":"2020-12-08T17:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/philology.upatras.gr\/?page_id=8240"},"modified":"2021-05-22T22:08:00","modified_gmt":"2021-05-22T20:08:00","slug":"metaptychiaka-mathimata","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/philology.upatras.gr\/en\/metaptychiaka-mathimata\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctorate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Philology offers doctoral studies leading to a Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. equivalent) in the fields of Classics (excluding archaeology), Byzantine Studies, Modern Greek Literature, and Linguistics. The minimal duration of studies is three full calendar years calculated from the beginning of enrollment in the Department. Throughout their studies Doctoral Candidates are guided in their research by a supervisor and two advisors. The supervisor must be a faculty member of the Department. The acquisition of a Doctoral Degree depends upon the successful completion and public examination by a seven-member committee of an original thesis in any subject within the above-mentioned fields.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must already possess, and submit officially certified copies of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a First Degree in a relevant field from a Greek University or a First Degree from an institution of Higher Education abroad, recognised by the Hellenic National Recognition and Information Center (DOATAP) as an equivalent accredited in accordance with article 46 of Law 4485\/2017.<\/li>\n<li>a Graduate Studies Degree in a relevant field from a Greek University or a Master\u2019s Degree (M.A., M.St., M.Phil. etc.) from an institution of Higher Education abroad recognised by the Hellenic National Recognition and Information Center (DOATAP) as an equivalent accredited in accordance with article 46 of Law 4485\/2017.<\/li>\n<li>a Certificate of adequate knowledge of at least one of the following languages at C1 level or higher: English, French, German, Italian<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the above documents, applicants must also submit:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a detailed Curriculum Vitae<\/li>\n<li>a Research Proposal up to 3000 words (including bibliography) specifying the intended topic of their thesis and its originality<\/li>\n<li>two letters of recommendation, preferably by academics who have had first-hand knowledge of the applicant\u2019s merit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prospective applicants may consider contacting the faculty member(s) that they wish to supervise their thesis and reaching a preliminary agreement with them prior to application. Upon availability of a faculty member who is able and willing to supervise the proposed thesis, applicationts are accepted\/rejected on a merit-only basis by an admissions committee.
